Trump Found Guilty on All Counts
A jury found former President Donald Trump guilty on all 34 criminal counts against him. The charges were related to hush money payments made to two women before the 2016 election.
Trump denied having affairs with the women. But the jury agreed he broke campaign finance laws by arranging the secret payments. Trump could face years in prison when he is sentenced.
Advisor Calls Verdict Shocking
Jan Hally Hayes was an advisor to Trump’s transition team after he won the 2016 election. In an interview, Hayes said he was shocked by the guilty verdict, even though he expected it.
“My mouth fell open so far it hit my knees,” Hayes stated. He claimed the charges against Trump were purely political and a tragedy for America.
Trial Labeled Rigged and Disgraceful
Hayes insisted the trial against Trump was unfairly rigged from the start. He complained the judge was corrupt and should never have been allowed to oversee the case.
Trump himself called the verdict a disgrace and a rigged decision. He vowed to appeal, saying “this is long from over and we will fight for our constitution.”
Claims of Declining America
Both Trump and Hayes made alarming claims about the state of the United States. Hayes said, “Our country is going to hell due to illegal immigration.”
“We’ve got an open border – every town has become a border town,” Hayes stated, “The amount of rapes and murders [by immigrants] is out of control.”
Trump also painted a very negative picture, saying, “Our country’s gone to hell and is a divided mess, a nation in decline.” He claimed the U.S. is being taken over by immigrants from prisons and mental institutions.
Responses to Allegations
When challenged on these grim claims, Hayes stood by his statements, alleging crimes by undocumented immigrants make up a majority of cases.
However, official data shows American citizens, not immigrants commit most crimes. Studies have found no link between immigration and increased crime rates.
The former president and his ally seem intent on portraying America as a nation in crisis, blaming immigrants for societal ills. But their alarming rhetoric does not appear to be supported by facts.
Do you agree America is going to hell, as they claim? Or are their statements exaggerated based on the evidence? Let me know what you think in the comments.
