- Olive oil
- Salt
- Pepper
- Garlic powder
That’s it! For variety, you can also add other spices like paprika, cumin, or coriander if you want. But the main ingredients are just pita, olive oil, and some simple seasoning.
Cutting the Pita

First, use a pizza cutter or kitchen shears to cut the pita into small triangles. It’s okay if the two thin pita layers separate a bit. In fact, keeping both layers together makes sturdier chips.
If using thicker pita bread, peel the layers apart first before cutting them into triangles. Just make sure to cut all the triangle pieces around the same size so they bake evenly.
Seasoning the Pita Pieces
Next, put all the cut pita triangles in a bowl. Drizzle about 1 tablespoon of olive oil over each full pita bread piece used.
Then, add about 1/4 teaspoon each of salt and pepper. For extra flavor, use 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder.
Use your hands or a spoon to gently toss and coat all the pita pieces evenly with the oil and seasonings.
Baking the Pita Chips
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Spread the seasoned pita triangles out in a single layer on the sheet.
It’s okay if some pieces overlap. Try to space them out as much as possible.
Bake at 400ยฐF for 8-10 minutes, flipping and tossing the chips halfway through cooking time.
The chips are done when they look lightly golden brown and sound crunchy when you shake the pan.
Letting Them Cool
This step is important: Let the freshly baked pita chips cool completely for 5-10 minutes before eating them.
As the chips cool down, they’ll become even crunchier and hold their shape better. It’s tempting to snack right away, but be patient!
Serving Ideas
Once cooled, the homemade pita chips are ready to enjoy! They’re delicious for dipping into hummus or yogurt dips like labneh or just for snacking on their own.
Any extra chips can be stored at room temperature in a sealed container for up to 10 days.
Making your pita chips at home is cheaper, healthier, and so simple! Why would you ever buy the packaged kind? Give this easy recipe a try.
