Some people are very worried about bad things happening to Jewish students at colleges.
Here are the key points:
- A top Republican leader says the Democratic Party does not like Israel anymore
- He says universities are teaching students to hate Israel and support Palestine instead
- There have been protests at schools where Jewish students felt scared and unsafe
- A Jewish student journalist was recently attacked and stabbed in the eye at a protest
- Some Jewish leaders are telling students to leave certain campuses right away
Do you think it’s becoming too dangerous for Jewish students on some college campuses? Read on to learn more.
Democrats Are “Anti-Israel” Now, Says Ted Cruz
Ted Cruz is a Republican senator from Texas. In a recent interview, he said the Democratic Party has turned “horrid anti-Israel.”
He explained that Democrats are “terrified of the radical left on campuses.” Cruz believes universities are teaching “cultural Marxism” that makes students hate Israel.
According to Cruz, this teaching says:
- Jewish people are the “oppressors”
- Palestinians are the “victims”
So students start protesting against Israel and for Palestine. Cruz says this is really “hatred of the Jews” happening on campuses.
Violent Protests Are Scaring Jewish Students
Over the past few weeks, there have been many pro-Palestine protests at colleges across America. Some have turned violent and aggressive toward Jewish students.
In New York City, a Jewish journalist said she was attacked at a protest. She was stabbed in the eye with a Palestinian flag pole.
The student said hundreds of protesters were yelling at her and making rude gestures. The police could not reach her to help.
At another school, a rabbi told Jewish students they should leave campus immediately for their own safety. That is very alarming advice!
Will the White House Take Action?
Some people think the White House needs to do more to protect Jewish students. They say the violent protests have reached a dangerous level in just the past couple days.
It is shocking for religious leaders to tell students to flee their universities out of fear for their lives. That is the type of warning you’d expect for a hurricane or other natural disaster!
For parents sending kids to excellent schools, the biggest worry should be about classes and grades – not about their child surviving on campus.
The White House spokesperson did comment about the situation. But many feel stronger action is needed from the government to make campuses safe again for Jewish students.
Looking Ahead
The protests and rising tensions seem to be getting worse, not better. It is very concerning to see Jewish students face hatred, violence, and fear while trying to get an education.
Do you think cultural teachings are making students unfairly hate Israel and Jewish people? Should more be done to protect these students on campuses? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
